LNG Exports

Mogel & Sweet and others are holding their breaths in anticipation of the long awaited DOE study on the economic impacts of the United States exporting its newly found abundant sources of natural gas. It is a commonly held belief that the release of the research results was purposely postponed to avoid any negative influence on the presidential election outcome. DOE has promised to do so prior to year's end.

Prospects for full approval of LNG export applications is anybody's guess. Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) has been adamantly opposed, most recently writing DOE Secretary Chu on October 23 to argue it would not be in the public interest. He takes the Chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee in the 113th Congress.

Mogel & Sweet's call: Anticipate approval but perhaps with additional requirements.
